We work to improve the lives of people with albinism through a holistic approach model. Our objective: to prevent skin cancer and promote the social inclusion of people with albinism in Africa.

OUR MODEL

Beyond Protection Package

In 2011 we supported the Ministry of Health of Tanzania with the creation of Kilisun, a skin cancer prevention program for people with albinism in Tanzania. Our program represents an evolution of Kilisun, in which leading multidisciplinary teams from the dermatological, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, social and community sectors have collaborated.

With Beyond Suncare we have created the “Beyond Protection Package“, A standardized and easily replicable model in African communities, in which a series of elements and actions  allow its effect to be absolutely transversal.

LOCALLY PRODUCED CUSTOMIZED SUN CREAMS

Our sunscreen, of very high efficacy and safety, has a  formula specially developed and adapted to the reality, needs and sensory preferences of people with albinism in sub-Saharan Africa.

We promote the local production in simple installations adapted to local contexts, without sophistication of manufacturing processes and always guaranteeing high quality standards.

  • First sunscreen specially designed for people with albinism
  • We lead the creation of the first local production unit
  • Technology + efficiency + user preference + local context = Beyond sunscreen

The mobilization of the beneficiaries is coordinated through the local associations of albinism, guaranteeing maximum assistance.

  • 3500 beneficiaries receive free of charge services in 3 countries
  • 57% of beneficiaries are children
  • 75% of services are provided by local dermatologists prioritizing rural and remote environments

Educational sessions on albinism and sun protection are aimed at the beneficiaries, their community and the institutions. With group education we seek to demystify the condition and the associated stigma, promoting self-confidence and self-care measures.

  • Periodic sessions aimed at beneficiaries, family members and community members.
  • Training of trainers: training and awareness-raising of health and educational personnel
  • Involvement of local authorities

PACKAGING RECYCLING

Sustainability It is key to our model and that is the reason why hy we ask beneficiaries to return the empty containers. In addition to minimizing our environmental impact, this measure enables us to evaluate the adherence and fulfillment of the program, reduces costs and fosters responsibility, self-confidence and sense of ownership among the users.

  • Local procurement of the containers
  • Large container format to minimize plastic usage
  • 25% improvement in packaging return in the last year
